The Gray Gables apartment building here hasn’t had a certificate of occupancy since 2008, yet there are tenants there, says the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York.
Recently, on behalf of three previous tenants, the organization brought three separate lawsuits in connection with alleged conditions there — against Gray Gables owner Frederick Reus, the Town of Chazy and Clinton County.
“Without a certificate of occupancy, there should not be occupancy of the building,” Legal Aid staff attorney Tara Glynn said.
“They (the town) failed to enforce that revocation.”
