FORECLOSURE PREVENTION PROJECT

A staff attorney is needed in the Albany office of the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York to work full-time in our Foreclosure Prevention Project. The attorney will work half time in the Capital Region and half-time in Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties. The position is funded for 17 months from August 1, 2010 through December 31, 2011.
Responsibilities: The attorney will be responsible for providing advice, brief service, negotiation and full representation in foreclosure proceedings and settlement conferences. Also responsible for related grant reporting. Must work closely with other staff at LASNNY, project partners and housing counseling agencies. Will be expected to routinely be out of the office - at court, community partner agencies or other off-site locations. Responsible for attending HomeSave and other local community meetings.
Qualifications: At least 2 to 6 years prior legal experience or equivalent is required. Admitted to New York State Bar. Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and providing high quality legal services to clients in civil matters. Must be able to communicate effectively and work independently and efficiently. Sensitive to the needs of the low and moderate income households in crisis. Good computer and administrative skills including accurate and quick data entry. Ability to handle high volume, quick turn-around caseload off-site and work collaboratively with community partner agency staff. Must have a car and valid New York driver's license. Good computer skills. Prior experience in foreclosures is preferred. Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
Salary: $42,072 to $50,087. Unionized program, with excellent fringe benefits. May be eligible for Loan Repayment Assistance Program.
